Laser Therapy For Dogs
Laser therapy for dogs is useful when treating conditions such as osteoarthritis, ligament injuries, soft tissue injury, and more generalised pain management.
What is laser therapy?
Laser is an acronym for ‘light amplification by stimulated emission of radiation’. In more simple terms, this means a device that produces light of a specific wave length.
One of the known benefits of lasers is to stimulate cells to multiply quicker in speeding up the healing process and repairing tissue damage. This is done by penetrating the area of treatment where the light is converted into useful energy.
Laser therapy for dogs also aids in reducing inflammation and increasing collagen formation, which can both be effective in improving healing of tendons and ligaments for soft tissue injuries. Furthermore, it can stimulate blood flow to the desired area to allow for faster pain relief and restorative function.
How do we use laser therapy?
At Physio-Vet we want your pets to be as comfortable as possible. To ensure their happiness, we take certain measures to allow for the most stress free environment possible. A lot of pets actually enjoy the time they spend here having therapy!
We use a therapeutic laser which allows our vets and nurses to be as natural as possible around your pet (no scary goggles!) and the beam can be used against the skin. This offers a relaxing massage effect and feels more like a petting experience rather than a veterinary procedure.
